Big things come in small packages, especially when it comes to the Taxa Woolly Bear trailer. A former NASA senior architect who spent several years working on the International Space Station designed this trailer.
As you can imagine, TAXA Outdoors builds high-quality units, enabling adventurers to leave the inside behind while exploring the outside. We want to share with you why we think this trailer is out of this world!
What Is the TAXA Woolly Bear Trailer?
The TAXA Woolly Bear Trailer is a go-anywhere lightweight trailer that’s perfect for small cars, SUVs, and most other 4-cylinder vehicles. It’s ideal for individuals looking to connect with nature, whether at a local campground or in the backcountry.

New for 2021 are a number of features, including the raisers that bolt in three different positions so you can customize the rack for your specific add-ons and gear. They also widened the wheel base to track better with some off-road vehicles.
TAXA Woolly Bear Kitchen and Interior Storage
The kitchen is one of the major highlights of this basecamp trailer. It too has been redesigned this year off of customer feedback. The space was made to better accomodate a variety of stoves, organizers, and containers, with plenty of bumgee holes to customize the space.
In the kitchen cubby area you’ll also find the control panel with several 12V and USB outlets, plus switches for the LED lights on the trailer.
Below the kitchen is a large lockable storage cabinet, which is plenty big for camp chairs, climbing gear, backpacks, and more.
The front driver’s side corner is the cooler drawer which could easily hold a 12V DC refrigerator as well. A 12V outlet is conveniently located in the rear of the drawer for powering the said fridge.
On the passenger side of the trailer there is another very large lockable storage cabinet with LED lighting inside. The backing of this compartment has holes for convenient strapping and hanging of items.
Exterior Storage
The TAXA Woolly Bear was basically built for strapping anything you can dream of to it.
The fender/step has a bunch of strap holes to secure whatever you want to it during transit. It also enables you to climb all over the TAXA Woolly Bear as you set up camp or get your gear. The open storage gap between the front and rear sections of the trailer is sized with NATO canisters in mind. This means you can easily bring more fuel, water, or whatever with you on your adventure.
The cargo deck has hundreds of holes for practically infinite strapping possibilities. Additionally, all TAXA Woolly Bears come with a rear accessory hitch with a weight capacity of 350 lbs. Just keep in mind your weight distribution when loading this baby up!
Extra Features
Every TAXA Woolly Bear comes with 4 stabilizing jacks for setting up camp and a spare tire for peace of mind. They also come with a “lock ‘n’ roll” hitch, including the vehicle side, that allows for 360-degree rotation for any steep-angle off-roading that you encounter with this adventure trailer.
The Woolly Bear also comes pre-wired for solar and includes a Group 24 sized battery.
Specs of the TAXA Woolly Bear
The Woolly Bear’s 10ft 8in length and 5ft 4in width allow for storage in a standard-size garage. With a dry weight of 1270 lbs and a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 2100 lbs, you’ll be able to pack an additional 830 pounds of cargo in the unit.
The laser-cut powder-coated steel cargo deck alone has a weight capacity of 600 lbs.
And because it gives you 12in of ground clearance, this trailer can easily handle rugged roads, despite the weight.
What Kind of Vehicles Can Pull the Woolly Bear?
This TAXA model works well with many smaller vehicles.
Pretty much any vehicle with a towing capacity of at least 2100 lbs (the GVWR of the Woolly Bear) can haul this lightweight camper trailer. This includes small trucks, small SUVs, and crossovers.
Here is a list of vehicles that should be able to tow the TAXA Wooly Bear:
- Chevy Colorado
- Toyota Tacoma
- Nissan Frontier
- Ford Ranger
- Buick Enclave
- Dodge Durango
- Ford Escape
- Kia Sorento
- Subaru Outback
- Jeep Wrangler
- Toyota RAV4
- Volvo S60
- Subaru Legacy
Many mid-sized vehicles are perfectly suited for pulling the Woolly Bear as well, depending on how much you load onto it. You might even be able to pull this with something as small as a Ford Fusion!
Before towing, you should definitely consult your vehicle’s documents to verify towing capacity and limits.
Add-On Options
The TAXA Woolly Bear is transformed into an idyllic basecamp for adventurers with many of the add-on options.

Get some sleep or escape the elements in the THULE three-person roof-top tent. Keep the sun or rain off as you take in the sights and sounds with a 6ft awning.
Additional add-on options include a propane package, mosquito net room, and additional risers for securing gear.
Go Anywhere With The TAXA Woolly Bear
This trailer’s lightweight and versatile design allows adventurers to camp almost anywhere. With this unit, you can explore remote locations in comfort. You’ll find yourself camping and experiencing places you never thought possible in an RV.
Granted, some of the frills of larger RVs are lost when you strip down to something so lightweight, convenient, and versatile. Running water, toilets, and showers aren’t included in overlanding adventure vehicles like this. For many, though, that is just fine by them!
Being outdoors and connecting with nature has become increasingly popular. The TAXA Woolly Bear is an incredible light-weight trailer to make adventuring easier than ever before. If you’re not looking to upgrade your 4-cylinder vehicle to a large truck, this is an ideal option.

Dozens of manufacturers have been doing this adventure based type of trailer for years. Overlanding that is. Many proven designs out there that also come in at a better price point. Glad to see y’all highlighting this style of travel/camping.
