We happened upon the Air Force Armament Museum as we are RVing way from Destin, Florida into Alabama. To our delight, admission was free!
As we headed out of Destin (by way around through Okaloosa Island to avoid the toll across the Choctawhatchee Bay on 293), we suddenly saw lots of large, old, military planes on the side of the road.
Now, braking with a fifth wheel isn’t the easiest or quickest thing, but we made the last second decision to pull into the parking lot. Luckily no one was behind us and we were able to make the turn. Our initial motive was to just get some pictures of our big fifth-wheel next to some of these huge planes.

But as we looked around, we discovered we wanted to explore a little more. Turned out that we happened upon the Air Force Armament Museum right next to the Eglin Air Force Base. There are many planes on display on the grounds, chronicling the advances in aviation technology over the years.

There was also a memorial to all K-9 units that had served.

We peaked into the museum itself just to see what was there from the lobby real quick, not knowing that it was FREE! Once we found that out, we had to do at least a little bit of exploring.

While we could have spent hours in there retracing history, we still had a decent drive out of Florida ahead of us. We made a quick round of the exhibits (which means that Caitlin dragged Tom through and out of there in a “quick” 45 minutes), and hit the road again.
