Which Dynamax RV Is Right for You? Take a Closer Look

If you’re in the market for a Super C motorhome, you might have looked at Newmar’s Supreme Aire or Super Star. Or maybe you’ve walked through less expensive options like the Jayco Seneca or Entegra Accolade. If you haven’t seen a Dynamax RV, you don’t want to make your choice before doing so.

Some claim this brand is one of the best Super C manufacturers with its Freightliner chassis, powerful diesel engines, and luxurious accommodations. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s take a close look at Dynamax RV!

So You Just Bought a Dynamax?

What Is Dynamax RV?

In the RV world, there are several types of RVs. There are travel trailers, toy haulers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, pop-up campers, and truck campers, to name a few. But within the motorhome category, there are additional types of RVs.

Class As are usually what most people imagine when they think about a motorhome. They have wide windshields, are the most expensive, and are usually the largest motorhomes. Class Bs are camper vans that are barely bigger than cargo vans. Solo travelers love this type of motorhome because of its convenience. Class Cs are a third type of motorhome with a smaller windshield because of the cabover bunk space. They’re a medium size but usually the most affordable.

However, even within those motorhome classes, there are more differences. Class B+ vans are a slightly larger breed than the standard Class Bs. Super Cs are larger Class C motorhomes on a truck chassis. Dynamax RV manufactures these types of RVs – Super Cs and Class C motorhomes.

Dynamax RV is known for its full-body paint schemes because of its in-house paint booths. In addition, the Freightliner chassis of the Europa, Force, DX3, and DynaQuest XL is easily recognizable. You’ll know when you see a Dynamax RV traveling down the road or parked at a campsite.

Who Owns Dynamax RV?

The RV industry has two significant empires: Thor Industries and Forest River. Forest River owns Dynamax RV. Four other brands Forest River owns are Coachmen, Shasta, East to West, Palomino, and Prime Time. The company also produces a line of RVs including travel trailers, destination trailers, tent campers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and motorhomes.

Like many of these other brands and well-known RV companies, Dynamax RV makes its home in Elkhart, Indiana. Some call Elkhart the RV Capital of the World, and it produces about 80% of all RVs in the United States.

What Makes Dynamax RVs Different?

While Dynamax does offer some Class C motorhomes in the Isata series, they are still a bit more beefy than your typical motorhome. However, the name Dynamax usually makes people think of Super C motorhomes.

If you haven’t heard of a Super C, don’t consider yourself out of the loop. These motorhomes are a different breed and more niche than other RVs. You don’t see as many on the road. They’re more expensive, and many travelers who can afford a Super C prefer the large windshield and traditional feel of a Class A motorhome.

The Super C Dynamax RVs have a cab that looks like a semi-truck. Some people don’t like the aesthetics of this design. The interior features the same cabover space that you find in standard Class C motorhomes, which makes the windshield smaller.

The commercial truck chassis is also unnecessary for most travelers. While it can handle weighty loads, most RVers don’t need that kind of stability.

However, for people who want to haul big trailers carrying 10,000-25,000lbs, this is pretty much the only RV out there that can accommodate. With no weight concerns, you can have luxurious finishings, residential furniture, real tile, and hand-crafted solid-wood cabinetry. The powerful engine and drivetrain make traveling mountain roads and rugged terrain much easier and safer.

Who Is the Dynamax RV Lineup Good for?

Travelers more interested in heavier-duty furniture and features will find the Dynamax RV lineup appealing. The commercial truck chassis allows for more custom interiors and upgraded features like solid-wood cabinetry, granite countertops, tile flooring, and electric fireplaces.

RVers who want to tow heavier trailers or vehicles will also like the increased towing capacity of a Super C. If you want to bring your boat or sports car, it’s no problem, as most of the Dynamax RV floorplans have a 20,000-pound towing capacity.

Dynamax RV Isata
Dynamax RV has an impressive lineup of Class C and Super C units, from their smallest Class C, the Isata, to their largest Super C, the DynaQuest XL.

The Dynamax RV Lineup

Let’s look closer at the Dynamax RV lineup, which includes Class C and Super C units. The Isata 3 is the smallest line and starts at around $190,000, while the DynaQuest XL is the largest line and starts at $450,000. These models have slide-outs to increase the interior space and beautiful exterior full-body paint schemes to catch your eye.

Isata 3 – Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chassis, 3.0L V6 Engine

The Isata 3 line has two floorplans. The 24FW features a super slide along the driver’s side with a booth dinette, wardrobe closet, and queen bed. On the opposing wall, you’ll find a full kitchen and a full bathroom. The 24RW has a rear slide-out with a queen bed and a driver’s side slide-out with a booth dinette. It also has a full kitchen and bathroom.

The GVWR of the Isata 3 is 11,030 pounds, and it measures 24 feet 7 inches. You can use the cabover space for storage, or you can opt for a bunk bed for additional sleeping space. On a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis with a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel engine, this Class C doesn’t have the towing capacity of the Super C models at only 5,000 pounds.

Isata 5 – Ram 5500 SLT Chassis, Cummins 6.7L I6 Engine

The Isata 5 line is on a Ram 5500 SLT chassis and has a Cummins 6.7L I6 turbo diesel engine. It’s still a Class C, but it’s larger than the Isata 3 line. The Isata 5 has a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and a GVWR of 19,500 pounds. The three floorplans range from 31 feet. 2 inches to 35 feet, 11 inches long.

The 28SS is the shortest unit and has a floorplan very similar to the Isata 3 24RW. It’s a few feet longer because it doesn’t have the rear slide-out. The 30FW is 33 feet 3 inches long and has two slide-outs along the driver’s side. It features a tri-fold sleeper sofa, booth dinette, and full kitchen in the main living space. There’s a queen bedroom, full bathroom, and large wardrobe in the rear. The 34DS has the same trifold sofa and booth dinette as the 30FW but features a king bed in the back. The kitchen is also L-shaped with more countertop space.

Europa – Freightliner M2 106B Chassis, Cummins B 6.7L Engine

The Europa line has two floorplans. The 31SS is similar to the Isata 30FW. It has a sofa sleeper and booth dinette in a slide-out across from the full kitchen and a king bed extending in a slide-out. A spacious closet with washer and dryer hookups and a full bathroom is in the rear of the unit. It’s 33 feet 5 inches and has a GVWR of 33,000 pounds.

The 32KD has a unique floorplan with a sofa opposite a booth dinette behind the cab. An L-shaped kitchen is across from a full bathroom. In the rear is a king bed in a slide-out with storage at the foot of the bed. This unit is 33 feet 10 inches and has a GVWR of 33,000 pounds.

The Europa line is on a Freightliner M2 106B chassis and has a Cummins B 6.7L turbo diesel engine. It’s capable of towing up to 12,000 pounds. Finally, the Europa motorhomes have a Cummins VG exhaust brake system with a dash switch and Airliner 21,000-pound rear suspension for increased stability and control.

Force – Freightliner M2 106 Chassis, Detroit DD8 7.7L Engine

As we get into the last three Dynamax RV lines, you start to see the power and stability of a Super C motorhome. The Force line has three dealer-stock-only floorplans. All three have a GVWR of 33,000 pounds and a tow rating of 20,000 pounds. They’re on a Freightliner M2 106 chassis and have a Detroit DD8 7.7L turbo diesel engine. These Dynamax RVs also have an Airliner 21,000-pound rear suspension.

The 34KD is 26 feet 8 inches and features an L-shaped kitchen with ample countertop space, a booth dinette, a trifold sleeper in a large slide-out, a full bathroom, and a rear bedroom with a king bed. There are washer and dryer hookups in the bedroom closet.

The 37BD and 37TS are 39 feet 2 inches. The 37BD has a larger L-shaped kitchen and features bunk beds across from the full bathroom. The 37TS features a larger entertainment space with a second sofa. Both models have a rear bedroom with a king bed and storage closets.

DX3 – Freightliner M2 106 Chassis, Detroit DD8 7.7L Engine

The DX3 is on a Freightliner M2 106 chassis like the Force and comes with the same Detroit DD8 7.7L turbo diesel engine. It has a GVWR of 33,000 pounds and a tow rating of 20,000 pounds. Like the Force, it also has the Airliner 21,000-pound rear suspension.

With four floorplans, the DX3 and the DynaQuest XL have the most options of all the Dynamax RV lines. However, the DX3 line may have replaced the Force line since those models are only dealer-stock units now. Three of the four DX3 floorplans – 34KD, 37BD, and 37TS – are the same as the three Force floorplans.

The fourth option, the 37RB, is 40 feet 9 inches and features a huge rear bathroom. This design is more like an ensuite. There’s a half bathroom in the hallway between the bedroom and kitchen. It has the same L-shaped kitchen, booth dinette, and trifold sofa as the 34KD model, but the extra length allows for a more spacious bedroom and bathroom.

The BIGGEST and BADDEST Super C Dynamax DX3!!

DynaQuest XL – Freightliner M2 112 Chassis, Cummins L9 Engine

However, the four floorplans are very similar to the other lines. The 3400KD is the same as the DX3 34KD but longer at 37 feet 3 inches. The 3700BD is the same as the DX3 37BD with the bunk beds but is six inches longer. The DynaQuest 37RB is the same as the DX3 37RB with a sizeable rear bathroom but is also six inches longer.

The 3801TS is the only floorplan offering a different living area layout. It’s the same as the DX3 37TS but switches out the second sofa for an entertainment center with an electric fireplace. It’s also six inches longer.

What Customers Are Saying About Their Dynamax RV

We all know that RVs break and malfunction. Slide-outs fail, piping disconnects, and roofs need repair. Dynamax RVs aren’t perfect, even though they’re better quality than many other brands. But when something happens, you want to know the company will take care of you.

One satisfied customer explained, “Dynamax is not your typical RV manufacturer. This is a company that stands behind the product they build. I have had a couple issues since my purchase in 2016 and without fail the management has gone above and beyond to assist me in resolving my issue even after my warranty had expired.”

Another happy customer wrote, “We have had two Dynamax units; we have loved both of them.  Dynamax goes beyond building great motorhomes – they have also built a family of owners. We feel like we are part of the team. They are constantly making alterations based on owner’s experiences. We are customers for life.”

However, a couple of good reviews aren’t enough reason to skip a 3rd party RV inspection for any RV you’re purchasing, new or used. We recommend these even on RV brands we know and love, as every now and then you can get a lemon.

Two things weren't covered here that are worth noting. First, the Isata 5 line is available in 4-wheel drive. Second, Dynamax offers the Xplorer package, which adds multiple solar panels, lithium batteries, extra insulation, and a unique mountain paint scheme. The 4x4 capability combined with the Xplorer package makes the Isata 5 very 4-season capable.
