8 Best Lake Havasu RV Parks Near the Water

8 Best Lake Havasu RV Parks Near the Water

Did you know the old London Bridge that crossed the Thames River in the 1830s is now in Arizona? It’s true! In 1968, Robert P. McCulloch purchased the old bridge from the city of London, had exterior granite blocks cut, and transported it to Arizona for use in constructing a new bridge in Lake Havasu City. Today the London Bridge stretches across Lake Havasu.

But this historical structure isn’t the only thing worth seeing. Lake Havasu is one of the most beautiful areas of the Southwest. If you’re looking to spend a couple of days or several months in this part of the country, here are some Lake Havasu RV parks that will make your stay enjoyable.

Where Is Lake Havasu?

Located on the Arizona-California border, Lake Havasu got its name from the Mojave word for “blue.” The Havasu National Wildlife Refuge is to the north, and Lake Havasu State Park and Lake Havasu City are along the eastern shore of Arizona. Formed by Parker Dam on the Colorado River, the lake covers over 19,000 acres. Its average depth is 35 feet.

Fishing and boating recreation brings in 750,000 visitors each year. Anglers commonly catch largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, carp, catfish, crappie, razorback sucker, and sunfish.

However, because of the high levels of mercury found in the fish caught in Lake Havasu, the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has a safe eating advisory.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Lake Havasu?

Lake Havasu has the best weather from February to April and October to November. The average temperatures range from 70 degrees to 85 degrees during those months. There certainly are chances to see a 100-degree day or a 55-degree day, but the average temperatures are quite comfortable.

The hottest months are during the summer when the average temperature hovers around 100 degrees. It’s never humid. Lake Havasu is in a very dry area.

Are Lake Havasu RV Parks Expensive?

Depending on which Lake Havasu RV park you choose, you may pay $80 per night or $35 per night. It’s not unlike any other area of the country that’s popular with snowbirds and tourists.

State parks will be the cheapest options but offer fewer amenities and partial hookups. The more luxurious the RV park, the more expensive the nightly rate. So depending on what you’re looking for will depend on how much you will have to pay.

The length of time you stay is also important to consider. Nightly rentals are more expensive than weekly or monthly rentals. You’ll save money by staying longer at the Lake Havasu RV parks that permit long-term stays. State parks limit stays to 14 days and offer no discounts.
