Today was my last day at my job with The Dow Chemical Company – and what a great day it was! The support and encouragement I received from my coworkers and friends at Dow was truly heart-warming, as it has been ever since I announced our plans for this adventure and my intent to resign.
I was greeted this morning with a bag of goodies for the road put together by my team with contributions from an unexpectedly large number of very generous people (you know who you are – thank you so much!!). From dog treats, to games for the road, to chocolate, and solar powered decoration lights for hanging around our RV’s awning, they truly outdid themselves!
You guys are the coolest! I will be using the stamps to send you postcards 🙂
Then the thoughtfulness and fun continued: we had an all-day buffet of glorious food – all gluten-free in consideration of my dietary restriction/preference. There were scrumptious muffins, assorted fruit, and rich, peanut butter rice krispies for breakfast. Addictive taco dip, frosty shrimp rings, “hatuna matatas”, cake balls, and a luckily a veggie tray – to help balance out the rest of the indulgent eats.
And every going-away potluck needs several rounds of Hangman, where almost all the phrases were team inside jokes, the scoring was absolutely irrelevant and nonsensical, and no men were hanged (we’re all just that good).
The day passed quickly with the wrapping up of administrative tasks and final tidbits of information to pass on. Before I knew it, it was time to go. My day wrapped up with hugs, best wishes, and a slightly-more-than-mild case of the butterflies. I turned in my badge, loaded up my personal effects (with the help of yet another wonderful coworker), and waved back at the security guard as I left the campus.
Today marks a big milestone in our adventure. I want to thank everyone who has helped me along the way, and all the amazing people I worked with that made my last several weeks better than I ever expected! I would list all your names, but it would be a very very long list. I will truly and majorly miss you. And remember: it’s not “Goodbye”, it’s “See you later.”
Now, on to full-time entrepreneur mode!! …Although, I do think I might sleep in a little bit tomorrow… 🙂
