We’ve bought many of these items and can honestly say we’ve experienced buyer’s remorse a time or two during our travels. However, some stand out amongst the crowd and are worth every penny we paid for them.
We’ve compiled our 10 favorite motorhome accessories we couldn’t camp without. Consider these items to avoid wasting your money or experiencing buyer’s remorse. Let’s get started!
What Makes Motorhome Accessories Special?
Motorhome accessories are exactly what their name implies. They’re designed for motorized RVs. Since motorhomes can be very large, some motorhome accessories are simply beefed-up versions of accessories commonly used on other types of campers. Typically, these products aim to help RVers be as comfortable and efficient with their time, energy, and money. Doing so can help them fully enjoy the entire RV experience.
10 Favorite Motorhome Accessories We Couldn’t Camp Without
If you’re not careful, you can quickly fill up your shopping cart and blow through the credit limit on your credit card when buying motorhome accessories. However, we want you to stay out of debt and get the most bang for your buck when buying motorhome accessories. So here are the 10 motorhome accessories that we wouldn’t camp without.
1. Tire Pressure Monitoring System
This is our #1 recommended motorhome accessory. A tire failure on an RV can quickly cause a dangerous situation for you, your RV, and other drivers on the road. As a result, we feel that a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is something every RVer, motorized and towable, should have for their rig.
A TPMS can allow you to quickly and easily know important tire statistics while traveling. Monitoring the temperature and pressure of your tires can help you avoid tire failures. Are they perfect? No. However, they can quickly alert you when your tires aren’t right.
Some manufacturers include these from the factory to help prevent damage and increase safety. If your rig didn’t come with a TPMS, they’re incredibly easy to install and set up. Remember to also get sensors for your towed car and dolly, too. Even with a TPMS, you should still be checking your tires before hitting the road and any time you’re making a pit stop while traveling.

2. Genturi System for Exhaust Fumes
While the noise of portable or onboard generators can be extremely annoying, they can create tremendous power. Whether using them to run air conditioner units or charge your batteries, it’s good to have a generator on hand. However, you have to be aware that the exhaust from these units can be hazardous and has caused deaths in RVers.
This is why we think the Genturi System is at the top of the list for motorhome accessories. The system is easy to install and helps reduce the noise created by a generator, but it also helps divert the dangerous carbon monoxide gasses away from your RV and any RVs around you. This is a must-have item if you plan to run your generator at RV rallies or while tailgating.
- Improves Air Quality: Diverts exhaust away from the ground and...
- Reduces Noise: Reduces noise from the generator
- Compatibility: Designed for use on most exhaust systems
3. Motorhome Windshield Shade
That massive windshield may provide a fantastic view of the various landscapes you encounter while traveling down the highway, but it can be annoying when you set up camp. If you’re camping in a campground, other campers can easily look through your windshield and see practically straight through your entire rig. We couldn’t imagine traveling without a motorhome windshield shade to help increase our privacy while in campgrounds.
In addition, these massive windows can make it difficult to control the temperature inside your rig. Whether hot or cold, you want to set your RV up for success in controlling the climate. You don’t want your heater or AC unit to have to work harder than necessary. Using a windshield shade can help you stay comfortable inside your motorhome.
These shades come in a variety of colors and attachment methods to suit every rig.

A front tire blowout on a 40,000-pound vehicle can become a dire situation in the blink of an eye. If you’re behind the wheel, there’s a good chance that the force of the tire blowout will rip the steering wheel out of your hand, and you’ll lose control. This will likely cause your vehicle to veer off the road and into oncoming traffic before you have time to react.
The Rettroband goes on your tire’s rim and helps absorb the load should your RV experience a tire failure. The sudden loss of pressure and shifting of the load causes a motorhome to get out of control. These devices aren’t cheap (about $3500), but the peace of mind can be worth knowing that they’ll help you in your time of need.
5. Steering Wheel Table
The motorhome’s pilot seat typically wastes space when you’re using your RV. However, a steering wheel table can transform this wasted space into a convenient and valuable space. They can make it easy to set plants or lamps that can help make your motorhome feel more like home. If you’re during the Christmas season, it could be a great place to set up a tabletop Christmas tree.
Pro Tip: DIY your own steering wheel table using our guide on how to Turn Your Motorhome RV Steering Wheel Into a Table.
6. Telesteps 1600E Fully Automatic Telescoping Ladder
There will eventually come a time when you need a ladder during your adventures. However, finding a place to store a ladder for these rare occasions will be challenging. We love the Telesteps 1600E as it can extend up to 12.5 feet and only weighs 23 pounds.
- Fully Automatic Telescoping Ladder, with Patented One-Touch...
- Your Ladder Solution !
- Type 1 250 lb rated; Weighs 23 lbs; May provide up to 16 ft...
It takes up less than 3 feet of space when folded for storage. You can quickly and easily pull this telescoping ladder out to help you reach any items that are just out of reach. Just stay under the 250-pound weight rating to keep you safe.
7. Viair RV Air Compressor
Keeping your tires at the proper pressure is essential if you want to be a safe driver. However, if you have a tire that’s running low, you can’t just drive your big rig to the nearest gas station and fill it up. It’s best to carry a portable RV air compressor to be self-sufficient in keeping tires at the proper levels. A Viair RV air compressor is pretty much as good as it gets and worth every penny!
- Fit Type: Universal
We love this motorhome accessory because it has everything you need to ensure your tires are ready to go before hitting the road in your RV. The extra-long hose helps ensure you can easily reach all of your tires, even on the largest of rigs. It’s powerful enough to fill tires up to a maximum of 150PSI. These units may have RVs in mind, but they’re great for inflating bikes, balls, and other inflatables.
8. Motorhome Tire Covers
There’s a reason why we have multiple products on our must-have list that take care of your tires. It’s because your tires are essential to keep you safe and on the road. Motorhome tire covers help ensure your tires stay in tip-top shape for as long as possible. They keep the harmful UV rays and weather elements off your tires.
It’s a good idea to toss these on your rig’s tires if it’s going to sit in direct sunlight for an extended period. UV rays and weather elements can cause rubber compounds that break your tires down over time. As a result, this could drastically reduce their lifespan and lead to a dangerous tire failure down the road.
9. Slide-Out Storage Trays
Motorhomes often come with massive storage bays that allow RVers to store a tremendous amount of gear, equipment, and other belongings while traveling. However, keeping these storage bays organized and having your items easily accessible can be difficult. This is why we love slide-out storage trays.
These trays mount to the inside of a storage bay and allow an RVer to pull them out and access any hard-to-reach items. This can help maximize the space in the storage bays and keep everything tidy while you travel. If you pack them right, you also don’t have to worry much about shifting items while in transit.
10. 12V Cooler/Freezer
We love the Dometic CFX models because they keep everything incredibly cold and use minimal power. This helps us to make the most out of our battery bank while spending time in our rig and enjoying the freedoms of off-grid camping.
- NO ICE NEEDED: Refrigerate or Deep Freeze down to –7 °F using...
- RUGGED CONSTRUCTION: Heavy-duty, lightweight ExoFrame...
- ULTRA LOW POWER CONSUMPTION: Power via AC, DC or Solar and built...
It’s always good to know that when we return from adventuring, we have a cold beverage waiting for us. We also love that we no longer have to settle for soft ice cream. We can enjoy rock-solid ice cream no matter where we’re camping, which is how we love it.
