The Best Nissan Trucks That Can Tow an RV

The Best Nissan Trucks That Can Tow an RV

While Ford, RAM, and GM trucks dominate the heavy towing market, Nissan isn’t backing down without a fight. Nissan has pushed the limits and has cranked out some of the highest quality trucks we’ve ever seen from them. If you’re in the market for a new truck and considering a Nissan, this is the article for you. Let’s start looking at some of the best Nissan trucks that can tow an RV.

About Nissan Trucks

While some components come from Japan, all Nissan trucks are assembled at the Nissan Vehicle Assembly Plant in Canton, Mississippi. This massive plant has produced over three million vehicles since opening in 2003.

Nissan’s truck lineup includes the Frontier, Titan, and Titan XD. None of these trucks can compete with a one ton truck in towing but they are still very capavle. While their competitors may have more impressive towing and performance specs, not everyone needs maximum capacity. These vehicles work great for those seeking a great all-around truck that’s easy to drive, reliable and still capable.

Are Nissan Trucks Good for Towing?

Nissan trucks are decent trucks for towing. They don’t have off-the-charts towing numbers but can get the job done. Their lower numbers explain why you won’t see them used for commercial purposes or hauling items at the worksite.

If you plan to tow heavy loads regularly, you’ll push these trucks to the limits. Doing so will often result in increased wear and tear on the transmission, engine, and braking system.

Nissan Trucks: Can They Tow RVs?

Nissan trucks often don’t get the credit they deserve. While they may not handle large fifth wheels or other massively large RVs, they’re more than capable of towing many RVs. Let’s take a look!

Nissan Frontier

The Nissan Frontier comes in three trim levels: S, SV, and PRO-4X. The S and SV are available in king cab options, while the SV is the only trim with a long bed. If you choose a Nissan Frontier, you can get a 3.8-liter gas engine capable of 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Maximum Towing Capacity:

The Frontier has a max payload capacity of 1,460 lbs and 6,720 lbs max towing capacity with the Nissan Frontier King Cab. With a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 6,012 lbs and a gross combined weight rating of 11,230 lbs, you can haul many travel trailers.

You’ll want to keep an eye on your payload, especially if you plan to take others with you on your trip or take a generous amount of supplies.

The Frontier is by no means a towing beast but for its size, it has respectable numbers and can tow many smaller travel trailer RV’s.

Nissan Titan

The Titan is a step up from the Frontier and a slightly more capable and luxurious truck. It comes in five different trims for the Crew Cab edition and two trims for the king cab edition. With multiple exterior and interior options to choose from, you can easily customize a Titan to match your preferences and personality. The Titan mixes work, play, and premium luxury.

Maximum Towing Capacity:

If you want maximum towing from the Frontier’s bigger brother, look at the Titan Max King Cab 4x4. By stepping up to this model, you can tow up to 9,310 lbs with a max payload capacity of 1,690 lbs. It’s a slight step up but can make a difference.

The Titan comes with many safety features, including automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. Combine those with the blind spot and lane departure warnings, and you can travel with peace of mind.

The Titan is a step up from the smaller Frontier but isn’t a towing beast. If you plan to keep your RVing adventures local, you can get by with a larger travel trailer. But the payload on this Nissan truck likely won’t support a larger fifth wheel.

Nissan Titan XD

The Titan XD is the beefiest and most capable truck in the Nissan lineup. Instead of just changing the drivetrain the Titan actually has a much larger frames putting it closer to a quarter-ton category or what GM called a heavy half-ton. It comes in five different crew cab models and eight different exterior and interior colors. With an optional cummins diesel engine this truck pulls with over 300 horsepower and a whopping 555 lb-ft of torque! It’ll flex its muscles at practically any job you throw its way. This truck will keep you safe and comfortable during even the longest trips with state-of-the-art luxury and safety technology.

Maximum Towing Capacity:

The Titan XD is the most capable and powerful truck Nissan offers in their lineup. It has a maximum towing capacity of just over 12,000 lbs speced out. The 2,390 lbs of maximum payload capacity is also beefed up compared to other models Nissan offers.

While the towing numbers are not much higher than the gasoline model or other half-ton truck offerings, the towing performance will be significantly better with the Cummins diesel. This is because it develops its torque at a much lower RPM and will pull like its larger rivals.

The Titan XD also offers a factory-installed fifth-wheel hitch and gooseneck option with integrated trailer braking and in-bed trailer pigtail plugs. These options make this truck a true towing contender.

With almost double the payload capacity of other Nissan trucks, you’ll have a bit more flexibility when it comes to what you bring with you on your camping adventures. You’ll still have to look for a smaller and lighter fifth wheel, but it can handle most travel trailers.

Which Nissan Truck Can Tow the Most?

The Titan XD is Nissan’s dedicated towing monster. For anyone looking to tow a larger camper or other heavy loads regularly the Titan XD will do a great job for those not looking to push the towing limits. Whether you want to haul boats, campers, or a trailer with off-road toys, the Titan XD won’t back down from the challenge. These great-looking trucks will keep you safe on the road.

Are Nissan Trucks Good Off-Road?

A properly equipped Nissan truck can work great for off-roading. They’re powerful and capable of handling whatever the rugged roads throw their way. The PRO-4X models have 22.8-degree approach angles and 26.8-degree departure angles.

With clearances like this, you’ll likely encounter fewer bumps and scrapes while maneuvering some of the roughest terrains. The 5.6-liter V8 gas engine has plenty of power to help you conquer the toughest obstacles.

Pro Tip: If you prefer manual over automatic transmissions it might be time to Say Goodbye to Manual Transmission Trucks. Here’s why!

Is a Nissan Truck Right for You?

While owning the largest and most powerful truck may make you puff your chest out in pride, it’s not necessary for most truck owners. If you want a well-equipped truck to serve as your everyday driver and take your family on some epic weekend adventures, a Nissan truck can do the job. Consider the Nissan truck lineup whether you tow a lighter RV or haul the boat to the lake.

However, if you need to haul larger loads periodically, it may not be the best decision. You need to determine your towing and capability needs.
