To make this crazy adventure work we need to liberate ourselves from most of our current worldly goods. This would not have been hard in college when all we owned could fit into a car or two but now we have a home, vehicles and lots of stuff.
Garage sales, eBay, Goodwill, garbage and storage – we sifted through everything we owned to determine what really needed to stay vs. what we could really live without. Goodbye collection of cool wine bottles, clothes we’ve only worn once, tools we *might someday* need, DJ speakers, furniture, etc. all had to go!
Some things like heirlooms and significant wedding gifts will be stored. However, we’ve set a limit on the things we can keep but not take with us to one 12ft long enclosed trailer.
Some things will be coming with us on the road, but the obvious limitation on space made the criteria for such things pretty stringent.
Selling our home
We also need to sell our first home that we’ve owned for the past 4 years. This is tough, because we updated every piece of it to our liking ourselves. Lots of good memories in this home, but new ones to be made in the next chapter!
We started by trying to sell our home by owner to try and avoid some of the extra realtor fees should someone find it an fall in love with it. However, we came to find out the hard way that buyer’s agents don’t much care for For Sale By Owners, and we weren’t getting any offers. Now that we are really ramping up to get on the road, we’ve partnered with a realtor to hopefully expedite the process.
