Travel Stage: Camping in Yemassee, SC after Charleston
Date Range: Dec 23 - Dec 28, 2015
Summary: We spent Christmas parked in the worst campground yet. At least it was free!
The Oaks at South Point in Yemassee was the worst campground we’ve been to yet.
To be fair, we were warned about this campground and how awful it is. That was why we altered our plans to spend some time at a campground in Charleston for a few nights beforehand. Unfortunately, it was still where we ended up spending our Christmas.
It is one of the Thousand Trails locations included in our South East zone (so it was free to us), and it has a convenient location between Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. Unfortunately, these are the only good things about it. But, being the frugal budget-conscious people we are, we decided to suffer through it for a few days despite the warnings.
What was so bad about it? Well, it was kind of like camping in a swamp. No – a shallow pond. No joke.

North Carolina Part 4 - Charlotte

Travel Stage: Day trip to Charlotte while staying on the farm
Date: Dec 17, 2015
Summary: Quick bike tour of Charlotte, which was only about 25 minutes away from where we were staying in Huntersville.

We were only about 20 minutes away from the city of Charlotte for almost a month while boondocking and hadn't gotten around to making a trip to see it. A couple days before we planned to depart North Carolina, we decided to make a day of it. We took our bikes like we have before to tour the city. It is such a good way to see a lot of a city in a short amount of time.

Before this lifestyle, we considered ourselves pretty frugal people. Now, we are even more so, and cities to us generally mean expensive. Food, shops, entertainment - it’s all pretty expensive. Luckily, we’ve learned that you can get the “feel” of a place by just observation. And if you look in the right places, you can find some pretty cool things for free or cheap.
