What Is An RV Washer Dryer Combo?

What Is An RV Washer Dryer Combo?

The RV lifestyle can lead to some pretty epic adventures. Oftentimes those adventures are filled with dirt and mud. Even with an ample supply of clothing, sometimes you just want to do a quick load of laundry from your RV. Laundromats can be expensive and take away from your time at the campsite. An RV washer dryer combo can help make RVing a bit easier. Keep reading to find out how.

What Is an RV Washer Dryer Combo Unit?

An RV washer dryer combo unit is similar to standard washer dryer combos found in many sticks and bricks homes. They work by washing and drying your clothes in the same machine. Simply select your settings and allow the washer dryer combo to run a wash cycle. Then, unless you tell the unit otherwise, it’ll automatically start drying.

These combo units are typically smaller than standard washers and dryers. The compact style allows them to fit into tight spaces. Because they’re smaller, they don’t have the same capacity as larger units.

The Benefits

Having a machine like this is a massive win in the convenience department. Doing RV laundry at your campground often requires coins. Additionally, you might have to wait for machines to free up at busy times.

Laundry facilities aren’t always available at campgrounds, which further complicates the laundry process. Finding a laundromat at each location takes time, and no one wants to drag laundry off-site. Having an RV washer dryer combo right in your rig makes the whole process less daunting.

There are separate washer and dryer units available for RVs. While they work well, they take up double the amount of space, a costly proposition in an RV. Combo units save space while eliminating the need to transfer clothes from a washer into a dryer. This is excellent for those who tend to forget to switch clothing over.

The Disadvantages

We should mention that there are a few disadvantages to having a washer dryer combo in your RV. Washing machines, regardless if they’re combo units or not, use a lot of water. This might mean you can’t use it if you’re low on water or at a park without sewer hookups. The water has to come from one source and then drain elsewhere, creating a frustrating situation without hookups.

These machines are known to be small. You might need to do laundry every day to keep up with the workload. Bedding can also be difficult to wash in RV washer dryer combos.

Do RV Washer Dryer Combos Even Work?

Yes, RV washer dryer combos work. Many RVers will tell you that they’re just as effective as a standard unit. The cycle time can be longer, but the machines are still efficient. RVers often complain that their clothing tends to be a bit more wrinkly when using a combo unit. But a few wrinkles might be better than the alternative – piles of dirty clothes!

What Is the Best Washer Dryer Combo for an RV?

LG is a well-known and trusted brand in household appliances, including washer dryer combos. This unit works great in RVs and will fit in most dedicated washer dryer spaces. Reviews say it’s quiet and runs efficiently.

Be sure to double-check your measurements before purchasing. The LG washer dryer combo is 25.5 x 24 x 33.5 inches and weighs 150 pounds. It has a capacity of 2.3 cubic feet.

Can You Install a Washer Dryer Combo Yourself?

Many RVs come prepped for a washer and dryer, making it easy to install your unit. The hardest part of the install, in this case, is making sure it fits through your door. Washer dryer combos are heavy. You’ll need a hand moving it into place. Be careful not to scratch up your flooring as well.

RVs that don’t come prepped for a washer and dryer will require a bit more work. In this case, it may be best to hire a professional to install your hookups. If you’re relatively handy, you may be able to install it yourself. Keep in mind that you’ll need a water source, a way for the unit to drain, and access to power.

Is Buying a Washer Dryer Combo for Your RV Worth It?

For those who RV full-time or simply detest public laundry facilities, buying a washer dryer combo is worth it. While there’s a bit of cost involved, it does save you money at the laundromat. If you have a bit of space to spare and your RV has washer and dryer hookups, you’ll likely be glad you decided to install one.
