Is the Winnebago View a Good Camper?

Is the Winnebago View a Good Camper?

The Winnebago View is the ideal small Class C motorhome. It’s short, has a full bathroom, and has plenty of cool features. But is it a good camper? We’re about to find out.

In this article, we assess the Winnebago View to determine if it’s worth the investment. The brand has a historically good reputation, but with mass production of small motorhomes hitting the market, we want to take a closer look. Join us!

What Is a Winnebago View?

Winnebago’s View is one of their most popular Class C motorhomes. It first came on the market in 2006. Then, it was an impressive small motorhome with luxury features.

Today, the View has three different floorplans and has kept up its standard of offering modern features and furnishings. The RV sits on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis with a diesel engine.

How Big Is a Winnebago View?

The View is on the shorter side of Class C motorhomes but still provides plenty of room for two to four people traveling together. So let’s take a closer look at its exterior and interior size.

Exterior

The Winnebago View is 25′ 6″ long from the front to the rear bumper. Its interior width is 7′ 3″, then expanding further when the slide is pushed out. The interior height is 6 ft 8 in from floor to ceiling. The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is 11,030 lbs with a cargo-carrying capacity of slightly over 1,000 lbs. In addition, it has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs maximum.

These measurements make the View easy to maneuver in campgrounds and parking spaces. It’s an excellent road trip size for a tiny home on wheels. And you can still tow a small vehicle behind it for day trips.

Interior

The Winnebago View has three floorplans. Each has a full bathroom, kitchen, and sleeping space for four people. One floorplan has a murphy bed, another has twin beds, and the other has a double corner bed.

In addition, each has a drop-down bunk over the cab or an optional u-shaped dinette or sofa that converts into a bed. The captain’s chairs swivel to face the living area for additional seating when stationery.

The View’s fresh water tank can hold 30 to 37 gallons, depending on the model. And both the black water and grey water tanks can hold 41 gallons. It also has a large propane tank that holds 50.76 lbs.

The RV offers comfort and ease for a couple, solo traveler, or a family or group of four. We like that they separate the sleeping spaces even though it’s a small motorhome. The main bed is in the rear, and the additional sleeping spaces are in the front.

You’ll still find plenty of older Winnebago Views on the road, which is a testament to their quality.

Pro Tip: Are you curious to know What Is It Like Inside a Motorhome? We took a closer look to help you decide what RV option is right for you.

Winnebago View Features

The Winnebago View has modern safety features and technologically sound innovations. For example, it has active brake assist, lane-keeping assist, the MBUX touchscreen infotainment system with interactive voice control, navigation, 200W of solar, and a WiFi hotspot. You also have the option of getting hydraulic leveling jacks added.

Additionally, this motorhome has multiple eye-catching, modern interior finishings and appliances. For example, it has an induction stovetop, which extends the countertop when it’s off. The View also features curved cabinets, soft-close drawers, and optimum storage.

Is It All-Wheel Drive?

All-wheel drive is when the front and rear wheels are powered all the time. The Winnebago View is rear-wheel drive, the standard for most Mercedes Sprinter chassis.

Rear-wheel drive is when the power goes from the engine to the rear wheels. Since the View is rear-wheel drive and lacks high clearance, it’s not considered a good off-road RV.

What Engine Is in the Winnebago View?

The Winnebago View’s engine is a 3.0L 6-cylinder, 188-hp turbo-diesel with a 7G-Tronic automatic transmission and a 220-amp alternator. In addition, the View has adaptive ESP (electronic stability program) technology and hydraulic brakes with ABS (anti-lock braking system).

Is the Winnebago View a Good Camper?

Overall, the Winnebago View gets high ratings. Being made by a reputable brand is certainly in its favor. Let’s take a look at a couple of reviews from View owners.

“This RV has more features than I can count. Drives very comfortably and no problems with bumps and swaying like other RVs. Hill climbs are easy with this model. Made a number of trips to Northern California through mountains and valleys without any issues. Can also park this vehicle in any campground or just boondock along the road (where safe).” – William H. (Review from RVinsider.com)

“We found the View 24V floor plan to be very comfortable after downsizing from our 32’ Class A. It drives like a charm, even when towing. And navigating the heavy traffic on the DC beltway recently wasn’t a challenge because of good visibility and handling. As with many new RVs, there were minor issues which were quickly resolved at the dealer – hence the 4-star quality rating.” – Lin R. (Review from RVinsider.com)

FAQ: What Is the Difference Between the Winnebago View and the Winnebago Navion?

The name is the only difference between the Winnebago View and the Winnebago Navion. They both offer identical floorplans and features.

The Navion is an older name from the Itasca line of RVs that used to be under Winnebago. So if you purchase a Navion, you’re essentially getting an older year View.

We purchased a new 2017 Navion V in 2018 downsizing from a Class A. We’ve never regretted it. It is so easy to drive which is great because I never wanted to drive the class a. The storage is amazing and as you said in your article it’s great having two separate area especially on rainy days. I even figured out how to set up an office area in the back when I. Ed one. The only thing I’m not a fan of is the microwave/convection oven. It’s located over my head so I always use a step stool but it still bothers me to reach so high for hot stuff. It’s still perfect tho for two retired folks and our miniature schnauzer roaming the country.

Love blog and the posts (and would love to see more steady stream of YouTube vids again). Sorry, but a cargo carrying capacity of 4,220 lbs.?!? Color me very skeptical given these Mercedes Sprinter based Class Cs often have a CCC in the 600 lbs to 1200 lbs range. Any chance of a photo of the door sticker showing that capacity? If actually that high, is is made out of cardboard and tin foil? ;) Best, -Mark

That stood out to me as well, since we would have bought a View if it wasn’t for the low CCC. This is from Lichtsinn RV’s site….

Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity (OCCC) -This is the total weight of all cargo which includes all of your gear, you, and the freshwater tanks full. The OCCC will vary by floorplan and optional content. The 24D floorplan has approximately 1,065 lbs., the 24V floorplan approximately 1,200 lbs. and the 24J floorplan approximately 1,325 lbs.

Cait and Tom, please update your number before someone buys this and heads down the road dangerously overweight. The Tiffin Wayfarer has the same problem, btw.

I don't think your stated CCC of 4220 is correct.....more like 1000.......which is what makes these Mercedes chassis rigs so undesirable.

You're right; our CCC figure was incorrect. Thanks for catching our mistake. We've updated the post accordingly.
